Crispy Cheddar Chicken

I found this delicious recipe on Pinterest and adjusted it to fit my husband and I's likes. It turned out great and Will had 2 servings (so we know he liked it!).

Ingredients for Chicken:

• 2 chicken breasts (I sliced them in half to make 4 fillets)
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
• 2 small sleeves (or 1 large) of Ritz crackers, crushed
• salt and pepper
• dried parsley

Ingredients for Sauce:

• 1 can of cream of mushroom soup
• 2 tbsp butter
• 2 tbsp sour cream

Preparation of Chicken:

• Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
• Put the milk, cheese, and Ritz crackers into separate containers. Season the crackers with salt and pepper
• Dip the chicken in milk
• Press the chicken into the cheese. You might need to pat it onto the chicken. Some may fall off.
• Then press the chicken into the crushed crackers. Pat down the crackers into the chicken.
• Place chicken fillets into a greased pan (around 9x13) and sprinkle with parsley
• Bake in the oven for 35 minutes covered with foil and then uncovered for another 10 minutes

Preparation of Sauce:

• Melt butter in small saucepan
• Add soup and sour cream
• Whisk until combined and hot
• Serve over chicken

I served the chicken with some mashed potatoes. The sauce worked great as a gravy as well! Yum :)

Maternity Photo Shoot

34 weeks and 3 days pregnant and we finally took maternity photos! We were originally not going to do any because when we planned on doing them, I had to take it easy. And with our scheduled c-section being in three weeks, I gave up on us getting any pictures of us. So, thank you Aly! You're absolutely wonderful and I'm so happy with how they turned out :)

DIY No-Sew Knot Headband

Will and I went the the 3 French Hens market and I saw these super cute knot headbands - but they were $12 each. Will said that it looked like something I could make. The only problem was that I don't have a sewing machine :(

So I went to Target and found some stretchy jersey adult headbands. They came in a four pack and were $4.79. I also bought Singer Stitch Free Fabric Glue for $3.89. (Though I'm sure you could use hot glue as well).

Steps (from bottom to top):

1. (Multi-colored) Original headband with no alterations.
2. (Pink) I cut the headband in half on both sides of the sewed seam.
3. (Black) I made a curved template and cut the edges so that they were curved.
4. (Gray) I turned the headband inside out. 

This is the fabric glue I used. After you use it, it needs to dry for 24 hours. 

I glued the curved edges together, leaving just a few millimeters of room along the edges. 

Steps (from bottom to top):

1. (Multi-colored) I cut a small slit in the middle of the headband along the sewed seam. 
2. (Gray) I pulled one end through the hole.
3. (Pink) I pulled the other end through the hole.
4. (Black) Completely flipped inside out and turned over. 

I double knotted the headbands and made sure the knot was pulled tight. The seam is on the inside of the headband, so that little hole I cut is not visible. The circumference came out to be 12 inches, which is the perfect size for newborns and all the way up to 3 months!

DIY Blackout Curtains

Will and I bought "blackout" curtains from Menards and although we loved the color and how it looked in the nursery, it did not block out any light. 

I went to Joann fabrics and bought white blackout fabric. I wanted to do the nursery and our bedroom because Will sometimes works the midnight shift and has to sleep during the day. 

I ended up buying 15 1/2 yards, which came out to be $108. I used a 40% off coupon via RetailMeNot and saved $40! It came out to be around $30 per room. 

Steps:

1. I did not take pictures of the process, but I unrolled the blackout fabric, smooth side down (the side that will be facing the window) and then laid the curtain over it. I folded back the top portion of the curtain and folded over the blackout fabric where I wanted it, right below the rings (see above picture). 
2. I then used safety pins to secure the blackout fabric to the curtain. You could also use iron or sew on velcro or adhesive to bind the fabrics together. 
3. I then cut the blackout fabric along the bottom of the curtain and did the same along the side since the curtains were smaller than the blackout fabric. The master bedroom curtains fit perfectly across. 

The whole process was so easy! Will and I both love how they turned out :)

Twin Nursery

When Will and I were trying to figure out how to make a nursery for our son and daughter, we decided to go neutral. 

Our theme was inspired by You Are My Sunshine and the colors we wanted to use were yellow, gray, and teal. We thought white furniture would pop against the dark gray walls.

We bought our cribs from Babies 'R Us, the block letters were bought from Walmart and spray painted white, the You Are My Sunshine decal is from Kirkland's, and the banner is from Hobby Lobby.

We bought the curtains from Menards. They were labeled "blackout", but they didn't block out as much light as we wanted.

The changing table was gifted to us. It was originally a cherry color so we painted it white. I used gray and yellow contact paper to decorate the shelves. The wall art was picked up at Big Lots, and the rocker/recliner is from Darvin's (on clearance!).

This dresser was also gifted to us and was originally laminate wood. I painted it with Kilz primer and Behr paint. I also spray painted the handles gray. Decals were purchased from Hobby Lobby, Kohls, and Kirkland's. I used contact paper for the back side of the dresser on the left side. 

We absolutely LOVE how it all turned out! Now we just have to wait for the twins to come!
